Great honour to be named as Cornell University’s 2026 Messenger Lecturer. The Messenger Lectures are the highest recognition of scholarship awarded by the University. For close to 100 years, they have brought to campus an outstanding range of researchers and innovators from across disciplines.
I delivered three lectures: on Greenland as Europe‘s last colony and its current status and future; on the challenges of being head of state with a previous career in academia and the humanities; and the history of Iceland through the medium of a TV documentary.
